Head of Research & Communications | Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications
Mr. Derek B. Laryea heads Research & Communications at the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications; a private initiative and industry association of mobile operators and infrastructure companies.
Prior to his current role, Derek was Reputation Research, Planning & Budgeting Administrator at Scancom (MTN) Ghana, where he was actively involved in the coordination, implementation and evaluation of MTN’s community-based projects and social marketing campaigns. He is credited for managing the template for the production of the annual sustainability report of MTN’s Carbon Footprint Analysis.
Over the last half decade, Derek has been an active member within the telecoms industry negotiating and helping to direct telecommunications policy, legislation and regulation, and pursuing research towards the development of
telecommunications in Ghana.
He has been instrumental in deepening consumer understanding on telecommunications issues through persuasive speaking and consensus building. Mr. Laryea has a passion for advocating growth in mobile access and public knowledge about mobile telephony through working together with numerous stakeholders to ensure the right environment for the development of world-class telecommunications services by mobile operators.
Derek holds a Masters in Financial Management from Coventry (UK). He is currently a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) a Regulatory Impact Assessment Professional and a board member of the Private Enterprise Federation (PEF) and Resource Mobilization Committee of the Ghana Aids Commission.
